If you’re looking to spend less money and get more bang for your buck, this post might interest you.
We recently got the chance to sit down with Tablecloth Designer baby clothes designer Stephanie Smith and we talked about what it’s like to create custom-made tablecloths from scratch, and how to make a tablecloth that’s more versatile and comfortable.
Stephanie said she started out with a design in mind, and when she realized she could use it to make her own tablecloths, she thought about what she wanted to create with it.
Stephanie says her inspiration for her tableclothes comes from a love for tableware and the way they’re designed.
“When I first started out, I really wanted to design something that I could use, and that I liked to wear.
That’s what I was doing for so long.
So that’s what sparked this design process.”
Stephanie says that when she was starting out with the tableclothing business, she didn’t know what she was doing.
“I didn’t really know what I wanted to do,” she says.
“So I wanted something that could be used and used again.
And then I wanted it to be something that you could wear again.
So I wanted the same style to be a part of the fabric.
I wanted that to be part of your everyday clothes.”
The design process was an interesting one.
Stephanie worked in the fashion industry for five years before she decided to take on a full-time career in the tablecloth industry.
She says she’s had to learn a lot over the years.
“The first thing that’s always stuck with me is, it’s not just the craftsmanship, it really goes to the idea of how the fabrics are designed.
The way they’ve been woven, the way the materials have been woven,” she explains.
“If you’re making a table cloth, you want it to have the ability to be worn again.
That is what really sticks with me, and the craft is one of the things that I’ve always loved.
I think that’s why I really loved sewing.”
Stephanie was born in the United Kingdom, and she’s been working in the industry since she was four years old.
She moved to New York City at age 15 to attend Fashion School and eventually landed a job at a boutique.
She was able to make enough money to buy her first tablecloth for $100.
It was then that she saw the value of tableclosures.
“It was something that really appealed to me,” she recalls.
“And I thought, that would be really fun to make.”
Stephanie’s tablecloses were hand-sewn from raw materials.
Her fabric was made from a combination of wool, linen, cotton, and spandex.
“They were hand sewn from the beginning, and I used to sew them every day,” she laughs.
“That’s the thing that makes it unique and beautiful.
I really love it, and it’s very easy to do, and you can sew it on the spot.”
When it comes to the construction of her tablecloth, Stephanie says she uses a combination 3M, Lulu, and Dainese.
“Those are all 3M and Lulu fabric, but I use Lulu because it’s the easiest fabric to work with,” she adds.
“You just put it on and it gets sewn in.”
In her shop, Stephanie is able to use a variety of different materials to create the fabric that she’s selling.
“Every tablecloth I make has been hand sewed, because that’s something that was really important to me, is that it has to be comfortable, it has have a soft feel,” she shares.
“Sometimes I’ll do it in the middle of the night, and other times it will be made to be more warm.
And I’m not trying to make it too warm.
But I just want it soft and comfortable.”
In the end, Stephanie hopes that the fabric she creates will be something people love.
“There’s a real beauty to the fabric,” she reveals.
“What you do with the fabric is up to you.
But if you like to be creative and really have fun, then you should definitely try and create your own tablecloth.
It’s a really fun way to spend your money.”
